About Therapy

Psychotherapy is a collaborative treatment based on the relationship between an individual and a psychologist. Grounded in dialogue, it provides a supportive environment that allows you to talk openly with someone who’s objective, neutral, and nonjudgmental.

I have always found myself holding onto my past. Be it my mistakes, choices, childhood memories - good and bad ones, regrets, words that have been spoken to me, and so on. I think looking back with joy is a good thing, but holding on to everything while trying to move forward is not so good. I came to terms that I need to accept my past and let it go while smiling towards what’s ahead, after all, “better things are yet to come” - C.S. Lewis

About The Therapist

Alexandra Rooks Hughes, LPC

I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia for over 20 years. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Wake Forest University and a Masters of Arts degree in Psychology (Counseling Specialty) from Argosy University. My experience includes working with adults and teenagers addressing a range of mental health concerns including depression, anxiety, trauma, stress management, mood disorders and relationship issues.

My focus is on helping people find purpose and empowering themselves, which includes the development of self-awareness and self-worth. I believe in the power of a supportive and strong relationship between therapist and client. In order for healing or change to occur, I utilize various therapeutic approaches and techniques, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy/CBT and Dialectical Behavior Therapy/DBT. I believe that it is important for a client to commit to the process and have enough trust in me so that growth and healing can take place.
